Runaway Groom Wanted Motorcycle More Than Bride
Sometimes weddings are about more than just love and a lifetime commitment between two people. For a groom in Calcutta, India, it was all about the motorcycle. Rajiv Shaw was reportedly given $65,000, furniture, and ornaments as part of Rita Kumari's dowry given by her family. But all of that wasn't enough for this groom. He wanted...a motorcycle. He walked out halfway through the marriage rituals on February 4, 2006 after being denied a 'sweet hog.' Though this has been a humiliating experience for the bride and her family, they aren't going to take it lying down. According to a local police officer, “They have been arrested on the charge of seeking dowry. We have launched a hunt for Rajiv and he should be held soon.” Rajiv brought up his latest demand midway through the ceremony. When the bride's family said they couldn't afford a motorcycle for the groom, he politely excused himself from the ceremony, leaving the bride, Rita, sitting alone with a garland in hand. (I don't know if an event like this is mentioned in the book He's Just Not That Into You, but if he won’t marry you without a motorcycle...he's just not that into you.)
